orchard glamping pods in lancashire. forest of bowland.

Back in January 2022, myself (Tom) and Michael from Lancashire Lads were invited for an overnight stay in one of the Orchard Glamping pods. Perfectly located for walkers, right on the edge of the Forest of Bowland here in Lancashire, we knew we were in for a treat!

After jumping off the A6, negating a few quiet county roads before turning off for the lane entrance to a farm (the hosts of Orchard Glamping also manage their family farm), we were eventually met by three lovely looking glamping pods.

They couldn’t have felt more private, tucked away in one of the fields off the front of the farm, with views looking over to Beacon Fell and the Forest of Bowland, also a stones throw away from the Lancaster Canal.

What’s To Like About Orchard Glamping?

All three glamping pods had their own private garden spaces, coupled with outdoor seating, bbq and a fire pit. This was looking good if the weather was to hold up for us later in the evening for roasting marshmallows!

Whilst we didn’t bring Henry (Tom’s dog) for the night, we were told that some of the pods can accommodate dogs upon request.

Rebecca and Tom (the hosts) were kind enough to gift us a one night stay in their ‘Blossom’ pod, the slightly larger / extended version of the other two pods, boasting a little more space for cooking, dining and relaxing inside the pod, separate from the beds and toilet / shower room located to the back of the pod.

The Blossom pod can fit up to 6. The other two pods can sleep up to 5. They all come with bedding which believe it or not, isn’t so common when it comes to glamping here in the UK. Great service for large families who might struggle to fit everyone, all their belongings AND extra bedding in their cars for a 2 or 3 night stay! Well done Rebecca and Tom for offering this additional service for their guests 🙂

We tossed a coin for who slept where for the night… Michael won the toss and chose the double bed. Tom relived his youth, sleeping on the top bunk (bed)!

We were also kindly gifted a meats hamper full of local product, along with free range eggs and locally sourced bread. This was our evening meal and morning breakfast sorted! If you’re not a vegan or vegetarian, surely you just can’t beat a fry up whilst camping / glamping 🙂

After some grub, a couple of beers and a game of cards, we decided to head outside and give the fire pit a go! There was some wind on the night, but with a firepit hamper to test out, we got the fire roaring and began roasting marshmallows… it just never gets old roasting marshmallows whilst camping or glamping!

It’s also worth noting, we had the heating on for most of the evening, which left the pod nice and cosy for once we were done roasting marshmallows outside. Some pods can get rather chilly in the evenings, but with decent heating, the Blossom pod at Orchard Glamping felt more like a luxury lodge than a glamping setup!

In the morning, after a brew with a view and another quick fry up, we decided to explore the surrounding area a little more.

Orchard Glamping Has A Farm!

Although you can tell Rebecca and Tom pride themselves on leaving their guests to enjoy their experience, they did inform us that we could head round to the family farm whenever we liked, to meet the cows… and a rather friendly cat!

The farm is literally just around the corner of the field where the pods are located, so we didn’t have to walk far.

The farm was in great condition, and we enjoyed our mini tour hosted by their 90+ year old relative (what a lovely chap), who still likes to muck in with the animals. What a great opportunity for guests less familiar with farming life. Kids staying at Orchard Glamping would certainly enjoy the experience!

There was a lovely river spot right by the pods, just by the edge of the field, carved out between the trees. Although we visited in winter, in summer this would be a nice relaxing spot to sit, and they’ve perfectly placed a bench here for just that.

Orchard Glamping; Great For Walkers

One of the great things about Orchard Glamping has to be it’s location. For walkers, Beacon fell isn’t too far (15 minutes drive), and there’s the rather popular ‘Cheese Trail’ which connects to the pod’s lane entrance… so if you like cheese (who doesn’t), this could be a great base for after a belly full of the stuff!

Furthermore, you can find a whole host of Forest of Bowland walks less than 20+ minutes from Orchard Glamping, not to mention our popular Garstang Castle walk – only a 5 minute drive from the pods.

We decided to visit Beacon fell the morning after our stay, to cap off a fantastic night at Orchard Glamping.

To summarise our Orchard Glamping experience;

  • We loved staying in their blossom pod. It had everything we needed, from a warm, cosy pod with spacious seating area, multiple beds (with bedding) and shower / toilet room. We also enjoyed the enclosed, private outdoor seating area which we used in the evening and morning after… for our brew with a view!
  • We would highly recommend ordering one of their hampers, as it can fix you up for tea and possibly breakfast, depending on how many of you were staying in a pod.
  • The firepit was a big win! We got a tad smoked out at times due to a bit of wind, but that’s part of the experience if you ask us haha! All good fun, and the gifted marshmallows tasted darn good roasted.
  • Big thumbs up for Rebecca and Tom for not only leaving us to enjoy our experience, but inviting us as guests to tour their farm (which they said all guests are entitled to do). It just added a nice finishing touch to the experience, without it imposing on our time spent relaxing in and outside the pod.
  • Location, location, location. Some pods are in people’s back gardens, others are on people’s yards… Orchard Glamping have chosen the BEST spot to base their glamping pods, tucked away in what felt like a private field off to the front of their farm… with views for miles and great access to the Lancaster canal. Just perfect!

Thanks again Rebecca, Tom and their family, great hosts indeed!
